District #37 2008-2009 Registration Info

Registration for the 2008-2009 school year will be held at Glenview Middle School, July 30th and 31st.
As part of the registration
Illinois Code requires that school districts admit only students who are legal residents of the district.  Therefore, to comply with state law, East Moline District 37 will be addressing the issue of proof of residency annually starting with registration for the 2008-2009 school year.

We will be requiring all families to re-establish or prove residency beginning with general registration on July 30 and 31, 2008.   Please be prepared to present the following documents in order to establish residency in District 37 neighborhoods when a student is registered for classes.

A “Pat on the Back”
to the EMSD and the Community!

Each year the Illinois State Board of Education recognizes Spotlight Schools—high poverty schools where high academic performance is closing the "achievement gap.”  Spotlight Schools exhibit achievements that are contrary to the conventional wisdom that test scores will reflect demographics despite local efforts.

East Moline School District 37 is pleased to announce that in 2007 ALL its schools were recognized as Spotlight Schools!  The accomplishment is rare among Illinois schools.  Only three other multi-building districts in the state achieved the same recognition!

The criteria for selecting these schools are rigorous. All schools must be making Adequate Yearly Progress. At least half the students are from low-income families and at least 60% must be passing the state achievement tests in reading and mathematics.  The Spotlight Schools demonstrate that low-income students and schools with limited resources can show impressive academic performance. These schools know how to help students succeed!

Kudos to EMSD staff, parents, and, of course, students!

LaVonne Peterson, Associate Superintendent of Curriculum (far-left) and Barry Green, Superintendent (far-right)  present Spotlight recognition awards to our Principals. Left to right - Jim O'Brien, Hillcrest; Sheri Coder, Ridgewood; Jeff Fairweather, Glenview; Cathy Baumgartner, Bowlesburg; and Kristin Humphries, Wells.

Promotion/Retention Guidelines
The East Moline Board of Education supported recommended changes in the middle school promotion/retention guidelines. Please review the complete promotion standards and retention criteria for grades 1-8.
