EMSD 37 is proud to host its first United States Hispanic Leadership Institute (USHLI) student assembly and parent workshop. USHLI is a Chicago-based national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that promotes education, research, and leadership development, and empowers Latinos and similarly disenfranchised groups by maximizing their civic awareness, engagement, and participation. USHLI normally presents to middle schools and high schools in larger metropolitan cities such as LA, NYC, Dallas, and Chicago. It is with help from the League of United Latin American Citizens #5285 in Moline that our students and parents will be able to have this opportunity to hear from Adrián Calderón, Senior Field Coordinator for USHLI.
He will present a student assembly on
Thursday, December 14th for 7th & 8th grade students from 1:00 PM-2:00 PM.
The topics to be covered include:
*Creating a "Culture of Education"
*Transitioning into High School
*Developing Long-term Goals
*Enhancing Leadership Skills
USHLI will then have a parent workshop after school at GMS Library.
The topics to be covered for parents include:
• Creating a "Culture of Education"
• Developing Relationships with Educators
• Accessing Scholarships & Financial Aid
