Next up, med school! In 2022, she became the youngest Black person to ever be accepted into medical school (University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine). With a passion to help other young girls enter STEM careers as well, she founded The Brown STEM Girl, which educates, motivates, and empowers girls of color to enter these fields. Boyette in the 5th grade hallway after school. -Congratulations to Abobakr Fakhri, Dakarion King and Tyvian Collins for qualifying for wrestling sectionals over the weekend. We had 3 wrestlers miss it by a win and took 4th. They were Travis Kinkead, Elijah Hare, and Kameron Buehl. Ms. Abrams, a lawyer, politician, and voting rights activist worked tirelessly to get new voters and encourage everyone to vote. Her efforts resulted in a record-breaking turn out in her state. Event winners were: Sophia Maess and Connor Adair. -Today’s Moment in Black History: Maya Angelou is a groundbreaking poet and author. One of her most famous poems, Phenomenal Woman reminds girls and women of all ages that you don't have to fit into society's norms, and it's okay to stand out and be yourself. Don't let anyone "box" you in.  Ms. Maya says, “it’s the fire in the eyes” and “the sun of the smile” that are two traits to being a phenomenal woman.

2-21-24 Announcements -Attention 5th and 6th grade students: if you are attending tonight’s dance, please go to the North Gym right after school.  -The admission for tonight’s dance is $3 for all grades. There will also be snacks for sale. -The 8th grade  Lady Gators put together an energized 4th quarter comeback, but needed another minute or 2 on the clock, to claim the win. Mr. Lewis created his legacy as a fierce civil rights activist and  represented the State of Georgia in the House of Representatives for many years until his death in 2020. Mr. Lewis is known for encouraging people to get in "good trouble, necessary trouble," meaning go the extra mile to make people uncomfortable by standing up for equality for everyone.

2-14-24 Announcements -The lady gators could not come up with a Dub last night, despite their great effort, the ball just wouldn't drop in the bucket. We hope to get back on track with our next home game on February 20th, against Wilson. -Popcorn? Check! Drinks? Check! Snacks? Check? Door prizes?? Check, check, check!! If you're a One By One member you do NOT want to miss out on tomorrow's after school meeting to watch the first half of our movie. See you in room 113. Speak with Mrs. Mojica or Mrs. Newton for more details -Glenview will be hosting a staff vs students basketball game. Students eligible for participation will be the girls and boys 8th grade basketball teams. This event will take place Thursday March 7th starting at 3. Admission is $1 for students and $2 for adults. Students are welcome to stay after school to attend if they brought the cost of admission and can ride the activity bus home. Concessions will be open. Come cheer on our Gators in uniform one last time before they become Panthers -Builder’s Club is hosting a Valentine’s Day skate night tonight at Skate City from 4 to 530pm. -The next Builder’s Club meeting will be Thursday the 15th in the Health Room. -Karaoke club meets today in Room 238 after school.
